Dirk has been dedicated to the treatment of eating disorders since the early 1980s. The Emily Program continues to see tremendous growth under his leadership with locations in Minnesota (Twin Cities, Duluth), Ohio (Cleveland), Washington (Seattle, South Sound, and Spokane) and most recently Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh). Dirk oversees all clinical activities in addition to working directly with clients. A native of Western Pennsylvania, he completed his Master’s in Public Health and PhD in Counseling Psychology at the University of Minnesota. His dissertation examined predictions of treatment response among individuals with bulimia nervosa. In 1985, he developed Indiana’s first inpatient/outpatient eating disorders program at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. In addition to working with women and men with eating disorders, Dirk also has experience in the treatment of alcohol and drug abuse. Dirk has served on the board of The Retreat for four years and supports the mission of providing affordable, effective treatment grounded in the Twelve Step principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.
