About the Presentation:
IDEAS SURROUNDING NUTRITION, FOOD IDEALS AND HEALTHY EATING constantly circulate in our culture. Orthorexia Nervosa (ON) is a non-diagnostic term that is now commonly used in the field of eating disorder treatment to describe behaviors and patterns in which an individual fixates on these concepts to such an extent that their social life, nutrition and overall health are adversely effected.
During this presentation, Amanda Mellowspring, a Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian and noted speaker and clinician in the area of Orthorexia Nervosa, will provide background regarding the development of ON terminology, differentiation from diagnostic eating disorders, increased awareness in the field of eating disorders, case examples, interventions and proposed criteria for diagnostic consideration as written by Steven Bratman, the originator of the term itself.
IN THIS PRESENTATION, participants will learn to:
- Distinguish Orthorexia Nervosa from other diagnostic eating disorders
- Identify proposed criteria for Orthorexia Nervosa
- List at least three interventions and ways to support behavior change for clients struggling with Orthorexia Nervosa
